Downtown News

With increasing rail traffic in North Dakota, BNSF will no longer be halting trains for parades running the usually Capitol to Civic Center route through Downtown on 5th Street.  The Downtowners, along with City of Bismarck staff, Bismarck Police Department officials, and parade organizers were invited to discuss new parade routes.  Thanks to all those involved for thoughtful conversation, while it seems an easy task, the considerations for the route include: safety, traffic flow, police time, assembly and disassembly areas, emergency routes, and private access to homes/businesses.  These issues will be carefully discussed for safe alternatives for future parades.  We’ll be sending a survey to Downtowners members to get their thoughts in the near future.
