Bismarck’s Biggest Reunion!
The 44th Annual Downtowners Street Fair is almost here! Street Fair brings together tons of Arts, Craft, and Food Vendors to Downtown Bismarck for two days of fun. Hours for the 2017 Street Fair are Friday Sept 15 (10am-8pm) and Saturday Sept 16 (9am-6pm). Roads in the Street Fair area will be closed after 5pm on Thursday, vehicles left in those areas will be towed. In addition to the great vendors, there is the Monster Mural Kid’s Art Activity (sponsored by Sam’s Club), JT’s Inflatable Games, The Barrel Train, and local musicians playing at the Busker’s Corner. Stop by Your Home Improvement booth to register for $10,000 in home improvements.
The Downtowners Street Fair is also a long standing fundraiser for the Downtowners Association and numerous service groups, churches, booster clubs, boy scout troops, and area non-profits through vending activities. Parking is available in the convenient Downtown Ramps. Be sure to stop on down and be part of this Bismarck Tradition! For Street Fair maps and event information, visit www.downtownbismarck.com.

The City of Bismarck is the recipient of an AARP grant totaling $12,610 as part of the AARP Community Challenge, aiming to create change and enhance quality of life for people of all ages at the community level. Bismarck is among 89 grants totaling $780,000 awarded to projects across all 50 states to make communities more livable for people of all ages. The Bismarck grant will fund a “quick-build” pedestrian and bike pathway from downtown Bismarck to the Missouri River waterfront parks and trail system. The Pop-Up Pathway project will hold a kick-off event Saturday, Sept. 23, with other events planned each Saturday through Oct. 14. The events along the pathway will include polling stations to allow the public to provide input on the route and gauge interest in a permanent pathway. Community Contractors Inc. has requested the City Commission consider selling them a city-owned parcel south of the Radisson Hotel for $1 for a proposed 40 unit apartment and mixed-use building. The developers would then invest an estimated $8 million dollars on the project along Main Ave. Commissioners said there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered and didn’t make a decision on the sale, but will allow city staff to continue talks with the developer and bring more information back to the commission. The parcel currently does not generate any tax dollars because it is owned by the city, but is used for overflow and large vehicle parking by the Parking Authority.
