Downtown News

Bismarck City Commissioners vote 5-0 in favor of an ordinance that would require Parking Structures in the Downtown zoning areas to have first floor retail space.  The ordinance states that parking ramps on the “retail streets” as outlined in the Master Plan and areas that are mainly retail, should have active first floors that engage pedestrians and strengthen Downtown retail districts.  The Downtown Master Plan specifically called out 5th Street and Main Ave as primary retail streets, but this ordinance could apply to other areas Downtown that are mainly retail and service based.  The Downtowners spoke in favor of the ordinance at the Oct 27 City Commission meeting.
