JL Beers Thinking Outside of the Box
Looking at Roof-top and Patio Seating
The Bismarck Renaissance Zone Authority had a full agenda for last week’s meeting and next month’s meeting. As Downtown continues this beautiful renaissance, projects start to come to fruition.
Two of the partners from JL Beers, a Fargo based beer and burger restaurant, were in Bismarcklast week answering any questions about their Renaissance Zone application. After some discussion, the project was approved at the Bismarck level, next on to the city and state. The plans submitted to the RZA shows a conceptual proposed roof top seating area providing 32 additional seats at a bar and tables on top of the one story former Bain Agency building on Third Street, as well as a rear patio area. Other exterior renovations of note include moving the existing awning location to expose the transom windows, as well as a new roof. Interior renovations included exposing the original brick/masonry work and retro fitting a bar and grill. Look for completion early this summer.

Broadway Grill & Tavern
Also approved at last week’s meeting was the proposed restaurant in the Broadway Centre development in West Downtown, Broadway Grill and Tavern. The restaurant would occupy around 5,100SF on the south-west portion of the development. The initial plans also have an outdoor patio attached to the restaurant. This is still in the very early stages of construction.
Other business at the meeting included the reappointment of Curt Walth (Starion Financial) and Jim Christianson (NW Development and Downtown Property Owner) to the board. Next month’s meeting will continue on with lease projects for the large Broadway Centre development.
— “Sweet Treats” is now open! The bakery has sweets and goodies, as well as breakfast, lunch and coffee. Stop in and say hi to owner Rachel.
— Well, it snowed! Here is just a quick refresher on the snow removal policy. Snow will be removed from the sidewalks and the cut outs at the intersections 24 hours after snowfall. Please make sure to clean around the cut outs for accessibility. Thanks!
— The Bismarck Police Department is no longer marking tires with chalk as a monitoring system for timed parking. Instead they will use a handheld computer that will track the vehicles more accurately. Please let your customers or employees know of the new system.
