Bismarck City Commissioners voted to end the original Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district starting July 1, 2017. The TIF District, which funded projects in Bismarck’s Urban Renewal District, was set to expire in 2026. Commissioners voted to end this original TIF District early in hopes of securing the Burleigh County Commission’s support for renewing Bismarck’s Renaissance Zone Program, a state-wide economic development tool. Some Burleigh Co. Commissioners expressed support for the Renaissance Zone Program renewal if the original TIF District was closed out early. On July 5, the Burleigh County Commission voted to support the city’s renewal request. Support from the Bismarck School Board is also required to renew Bismarck’s Renaissance Zone Program and will be discussed at their next meeting. The BMDA, Bis-Man Chamber, and Downtowners Association boards have voted to support Bismarck’s Renaissance Zone renewal.
