Quiet Rail Zone Implementation

Quiet Rail in downtown Bismarck has taken effect as of Jan 3. Trains will no longer sound the horn at the intersections of third, fifth and 12th street where motorists cross. Extra protection has been added to all three crossings for motorists and pedestrians, which include four-quadrant gates and flashing lights to prevent drivers/pedestrians from driving/walking around barriers to cross tracks. The Downtowners Association has supported Quiet Rail Zone implementation in Bismarck and we’re looking forward to the future opportunities that it could bring the community.  With the installation of the Quiet Rail system, Bismarck can be more successful in attracting infill housing in the central portions of the city, saving on new infrastructure costs.  The Quiet Rail zone provides a much better environment for current businesses in Bismarck like our hospitals, central hotels, and private businesses Downtown who’ve invested in the community.  The new system also provides added levels of safety equipment at the quieted crossings for motorists and pedestrians Downtown.  The additional of Quiet Rail also brings Bismarck in line with communities like Fargo, Jamestown and others who’ve implemented Quiet Rail systems to benefit their communities.
