Downtowners Street Fair

40th Annual Event Sept 13-14

Over 180 Food, Arts, & Craft Booths

This year the Downtowners are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Street Fair!  Organized in 1973, the event has grown to more almost 200 vendors on 7 city blocks in Downtown Bismarck.  Be sure to stay tuned to the Downtowners for some special activities happening at Street Fair to commemorate the 40th Anniversary occasion.  Lots of new vendors and all your returning favorites will be here!  The Street Fair runs 10am-8pm Friday September 13 and 9am-6pm Saturday September 14. This is also a  chance for members to showcase their great businesses to the community over the events days.  Prepare for lots traffic and be sure to make an impression. Roads utilized for the Street Fair will be closed at 5:00pm on Thursday September for set up.  Please be sure to let your employees and customers know so they won’t be towed. Consider using the 3 public parking ramps during the event. Effected areas are 4th and 5th streets from Main Ave to Thayer Ave and Broadway from 3rd street to 6th street.
See you at the Street Fair!

News & Updates

-The Downtown Sub-Area Study or more commonly known, the Downtown Master Plan, held its third public input meeting August 14 at the Bismarck Civic Center.  About 70 people attended the meeting to get the latest updates and voice their opinions on the exciting “Game Changer” plans for the future of Downtown Bismarck. If you weren’t able to make it, you may view the presentation and submit your thoughts on the study website: www.downtownbismarckstudy.com.
– Progress on rehabilition to the former Cowan Building continue to take shape (pictured above).  The main floor street windows have been added, while the upper 4 story windows are starting to be installed.  There are over 200 windows in the building needing replacement.  The street loading zone has been poured and the sidewalk should be installed soon.   Some space has already been leased in the project, for more information on leasing opportunities, visit http://downtownbismarck.com/real-estate/405-e-broadway-ave.
-Crabapple Floral & Gifts, a new florist in Bismarck, will be opening up shop September 5 at 303 E Main Ave.  Kelsey Ruhland, owner and head designer of Crabapple, will be doing events, weddings, and day to day arrangements.  Their location will be inside ACO (A Creative Outlet) on Main Ave which opened earlier this year and supports local creatives in the area.  Crabapple opened in 2008, this will be their first venture in Bismarck.  You can find more on Facebook or their website: http://www.crabappleflowers.com/
-Langan Engineering and Lucky Ducks Deli were both approved for Renaissance Zone projects at the Authority’s August meeting. Langan would be located in the newly rehabilitated Cowan Building on 4th & Broadway.  Lucky Ducks Deli applied as a building addition looking to add to their existing location. Both projects go to the city and state for approval.

-Construction continues on the Sixth and Thayer Parking Ramp.  Portions of off-street parking adjacent to the project along 6th Street and Thayer Ave have been closed.  Please consider using the parking ramps if off street parking is full.
–If you are considering a downtown development or renovation of a Downtown building, the CORE Incentive Programs are once again available through the City of Bismarck.  The CORE Programs currently active are Façade Improvements, Housing Incentive Grant, Technical Assistance Bank, and Sidewalk Subsurface Infill.  The programs are designed to encourage reinvestment, rehabilitation, and new development in the Downtown area.  For more information contact the Downtowners or Jason Tomanek at the City of Bismarck at 701-355-1849.
– The Bismarck Parking Authority is offering free evening parking in the 3rd and Main Ramp from 4pm to 2am daily.  With continued activity and nightlife in Downtown Bismarck, the ramps allow the public to enjoy the city center and not have to search for street parking. *How the After Hour Complementary Parking Works: Use the entrance to the 3rd & Main Ramp on 3rd Street.  Pull into the ramp and pull a time stamped ticket.  The arm will raise and allow the car through to park.  When exiting the ramp, simply use the hourly lane and deposit your ticket in the slot, the arm will already be raised to allow the cars to exit. There is no leeway on timing.  If you enter at 3:59pm or exit at 2:01am, the customer will be charged the normal hourly rate.
