State of the Downtown May 3

Downtown Business Association members and our local partners are invited to the State of the Downtown 2016 event May 3 at the Historic Dakota Stage Theater.  Downtown Bismarck’s revitalization continues to highlight Bismarck as a growing destination community.  The Downtowners State of the Downtown Event will begin at 8am and explore some major projects underway in the Downtown, including the Bismarck Depot public gathering space and FiveSouth.  The program will also showcase an economic snapshot of Downtown Bismarck and its production in various areas. Additionally, we’ll honor two members with our Annual June & Jim Thompson Downtown Leadership Award and Volunteer of the Year Award.  State of the Downtown 2016 is free to our Downtown Business Association of Bismarck members, $15 for non-members.  Tickets are limited so get yours soon!

Member New Dakota LLC has received official status as a North Dakota Certified Women Owned Business (WOB), joining an elite group of women entrepreneurs in North Dakota. WOB Certification denotes that a woman (or women) has majority ownership and control of a business entity (at least 51%). This certification is conducted by Center for Technology & Business. Member Dakota Stage Ltd. will premiere the last show of its 37th season with the witty classic comedy by Noel Coward, Hay Fever. Performances are at 7:30 pm on Thursdays through Saturdays and at 2pm on the final Sunday from May 5-15. Ticket reservations can be made online at www.dakotastageltd.com.

Member MSA United will be having an online auction April 18-29 to support a variety of life-changing services in the Bismarck-Mandan region by auctioning off items donated by individuals or businesses. Member Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra ends the subscription series of its 40thanniversary season with, “O For Muse of Fire.” Concert starts at 7:30pm at the Belle Mehus Auditorium. Member Juniper, LLC is hosting an open house at their Juniper Workantile space on May 6 from 8:30-10:30am. The open house will celebrate the 2016 small business award recipients from North Dakota and to meet Betsy Markey, the newly appointed Region VIII Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration.  There will also be an opportunity to network with area businesses and SBA regional partners.

Downtown News

The City of Bismarck continues to move through the required process to apply for their Renaissance Zone 5 year extension allowed by state law.  Burleigh County Commissioners rejected support of the extension, the Bismarck School District will have it on their upcoming meeting agenda for review. Bismarck Renaissance Zone has generated more than $40 million in increased property values, hundreds of jobs, and millions in private investment.  Bismarck City Commissioners approved the application last month.
