Bismarck Livability Survey Results

Part of the Bismarck Mayor’s Livability Summit that took place last month was a community survey and SWOT analysis, the results are now in and available to the public. The survey results will help start the on-going efforts and conversations to explore what the community wants in order to set the stage for the City’s future Strategic Planning efforts.  There were a total of 1,240 responses received. A variety of questions asked in the survey range from what attracts you to Bismarck, to what community improvements could be made, etc. The top results of the question, ‘what attracted you to Bismarck and what keeps you living here’, 74 percent said, “the people and being closer to family” as well as career opportunities. Other top responses included: safe neighborhoods, academically successful schools, a stable economy and recreational opportunities. Along with attractions, improvements were another main topic for residents with top results ranging from more walkability to reasonable housing. The survey results will assist community organizations including the Downtowners, in the continued effort to create a vibrant community and Downtown which is more walkable while creating attainable housing choices and increased livability.  A SWOT analysis was also conducted for certain areas including: Arts, Humanities, Business and Innovation, City Government, Commerce and Development, Community Services and Healthcare, Education and Other. Thank you to member Coschedule for their work in gathering the responses to the survey and compiling the data.
